"Sing, Sing a song - Make it simple, to last your whole life long" by the Carpenters

Nicola R. Oddy, BMus MA MTA CCC

Nicola has been singing for as long as she can remember. She studied voice at UBC, where she received her Bachelor of Music.  While there, she had the opportunity to study medieval music style with Thomas Binkley and Renaissance  style with Nigel Rogers.  Her voice teacher, Beth Watson opened up many doors but it was just a beginning.

After university, she resumed her studies with the inspiring Luigi Wood of Vancouver who helped her to turn a corner and take steps to understand what her voice was capable of.

Nicola has taught others ever since, preparing students for exams, auditions and entrance into university.

As a young woman, she was a member of the performing arts team - the Cassation group - where she received several years of diverse experience singing contemporary music by many Canadian composers including Truax, Pennycook, Dolden, Shafer, and Czink.  In a more traditional realm her favorite music to perform is that of the renaissance composers.

More recently, she has been involved in many Perth Community Choir productions, in small vocal ensembles and is a regular soloist for community events.  She is a member of the Cantata Singers of Ottawa, and conducts two community choirs of her own in the Perth area.

She is also proud to be the voice of Symphonium – Ottawa Valley’s community orchestra.
